Biography
I am a lifelong resident of Douglas County and a graduate of Lithia Springs High School. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Interior Design from West Georgia College. Later I returned to the University of West Georgia to earn certification in Art Education. I have a Master's Degree in Art Education from the University of Florida. GO GATORS! I love teaching Art at Holly Springs Elementary School. The 2023-2024 school year will be my fifteenth year at Holly Springs and my sixteenth year teaching altogether.
Art Class Information
I am excited to begin another creative year in Art! We will work with a variety of Art media this year, including drawing, painting, collage, and clay.
In Art students develop many life skills which can be applied in settings outside the Art classroom. Students develop technical and fine motor skills as they manipulate various art materials. Children learn to engage and persist in a task, overcome challenges, and find ways to correct or incorporate mistakes into artworks. Students learn to make independent choices regarding size, placement, and color. We learn about art history and world cultures. Students learn to envision and plan; we learn how to picture ideas in our heads, to think ahead, and to plan next steps.
Students have so much fun working with messy materials that they don’t always get to use. Although I have procedures in place to minimize messes and protect clothing, children are still learning and accidents do happen. Please be sure to check your child’s special schedule and make sure that on Art days your child wears clothes that can tolerate stains from spills and splatters.
