Mr. Nedvidek makes music a fun, exciting time for all of our Holly Hawks. Mr. Nedvidek plans engaging lessons and also leads performances throughout the year for all Holly Hawks to participate in such as Veterans Day and the holiday concert. Mr. Nedvidek also leads the county's only elementary band program. Many of his former Hawks go on to participate in middle and high school. Mr. Nedvidek also leads the Chous program. Did you hear there's a new Beanstack Challenge?! The Douglas County School System has a special challenge for the next six weeks called Team Douglas LOVES Literacy. Students will need to log 600 minutes of reading AND complete at least one book review in Beanstack by May 2. The school with the highest challenge completion rate will keep the Beanstack trophy through the summer. In addition, 10 students from each school who complete the challenge will be randomly chosen to take part in a special district wide celebration! This is a challenge you do not want to miss!

Field Day shirts are on sale now! This year, we're introducing a new twist: each homeroom within the same grade level will have its own unique shirt color. This change is designed to make it easier for students to identify their peers during competitions.
To streamline the process, the paper color of your order form will correspond to the shirt color. Order forms went home in the Hawkeye Tuesday, March 18. The colors are assigned as follows:
Specials Groups:
Group A: Green
Group B: Blue
Group C: Red
Group D: Orange
The $14.00 cost will include Kona Ice, so students won't need to bring separate money when May rolls around. Please note that we can only accept checks or exact change. Any additional amount will be gratefully considered a donation to the Field Day fund.
If you need an extra copy of the order form, click here (Instagram viewers, copy and paste): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/19eGqISN8sTK6S0oarljn1zglLUmahwsdrf1At9vdr8U/edit?usp=sharing
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Walls. Thanks!

Congratulations to the winners of last week's one week only Beanstack Challenge! These homerooms came to the gym to watch a little friendly tricycle race amongst the administrators and teachers. It was so much fun!

Congratulations to Karma S! She was our school's Science Fair Project Winner!

HSES celebrated Read Across America a few weeks ago and one of the activities students could participate in was Guess the Masked Reader. We wanted to thank the staff members who took the time to come up with a costume and book idea and then record the reading of the book. Thank you to the following staff members: Mrs. Byrd, Mrs. Earl, Ms. Winslett, Mr. Cozart and Mrs. Scott. The students had so much fun making their predictions!

This Friday, March 14, is your last chance to purchase a yearbook and hold on to those precious elementary school memories! Sales end that day and no extras will be ordered for sale at school. The cost is $35.00. Go to yearbookordercenter.com and enter the HSES school code 18538.

If you plan on going to the store this weekend, and are willing to pick up a donation to benefit Project Peru, our school would greatly appreciate it! See the flyer for more details. Thank you!

Congratulations to the Beanstack leaders from February! The top three grade levels will earn extra recess. The top 3 classes earned homework passes and the traveling trophy is proudly displayed in their classroom. The 3 top readers earned a token to our book vending machine and our staff winners received a free lesson pass. Way to go, Hawks! Keep reading and logging those minutes! The deadline for meeting the 2,250 Great Escape Challenge is March 14! It is just one week away!
