About the School

HSES Building

Our mission at Holly Springs Elementary is to empower and encourage children in mind, body and spirit to be successful, productive citizens while inspiring them to be lifelong learners.

Holly Springs' School History

Holly Springs Elementary School was built in 1999. It opened in August for the 1999-2000 school with a staff of 35 teachers, support staff, cafeteria staff and custodians. There were 350 students. During the 2004-2005 school year, HSES grew to 696 students. The growth at the school mirrored the huge growth spurt in Douglas County. However, even with this tremendous growth, the school continued to be a high performing place of learning for students and staff. Today, there are over 600 students and a staff of 60+ Hawks working hard each and every day.

In 2005, Atlanta magazine named Holly Springs Elementary the best elementary school in Douglas County. In October of that same year, the Governor's Office of Student Achievement awarded the Bronze Award to Holly Springs for 95% of students meeting/exceeding the standard on state testing. Again, in January 2006 and 2010, Atlanta magazine named Holly Springs the best elementary school in Douglas County. December 2011, Holly Springs was named a Georgia School of Excellence in Student Achievement. Throughout its inception, our teachers have received a variety of accolades. We continue this success and excellence by being an eight time "Beating the Odds School", a four star climate rating achievement, and an A rated public school. We credit our parents, students and teachers for this continued success. Go Hawks!
